Starting therapy

  • Worrying about your thoughts or feelings?
  • Avoiding specific situations?
  • Feeling overwhelmed?
  • Wanting to build resilience?

These are all common experiences and get in the way of us living the life we want.

Talking to a professional can help provide strategies for managing thoughts and feelings, overcome avoidance and reclaim our lives.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is a practical, problem-solving approach, which is recommended by the NHS and NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) guidelines.

CBT is particularly effective for:

  • Feeling self-conscious in social situations
  • Flashbacks, nightmares or feeling jumpy after a traumatic event
  • Worrying about physical health symptoms
  • Work stress, perfectionism & giving presentations
  • Phobias about a specific object, situation or transport
  • Intrusive thoughts, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Depression, feeling low, withdrawn
  • Panic attacks, anxiety, worrying

Highly qualified

After completing a Masters and Doctorate in Counselling Psychology, I chose to specialise in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

BABCP Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist

BPS Chartered Counselling Psychologist & Associate Fellow

HCPC Registered Psychologist

Experienced

I have 18 years' experience providing therapy and teaching within the NHS, universities and in private practice.   I have experience working with a broad range of issues including: depression; anxiety; panic attacks; phobias; health anxiety; social anxiety; Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).

Empathic

I believe therapy depends on a therapist's ability to really listen and be empathic, understanding, genuine and non-judgemental.

I have a broad range of techniques and strategies for overcoming different issues. However, empathic understanding is important to identify the most relevant techniques for you and help support you in trying them out.

Testimonials

“Kate was incredibly helpful, kind and supportive throughout all the sessions I had with her.

Her approach to helping me overcome my difficulties was well planned and thoughtful, getting right to the root of the problem. She asked the right questions and expertly gauged my responses.

I felt like I could really trust her. I am so grateful to Kate - I wouldn’t be in the place I am now without her!”

The following blog was written by a client who wanted to share what she had learnt during our therapy sessions:

“I’ve tried a few different treatments but my time with Kate has been kinder and more beneficial for me than anyone else.

Almost everything I continue to use in my daily life I learnt from our sessions which always felt tailor made to me and always left me feeling rather hopeful that maybe I can actually get through all this.”

“I started therapy with Kate during a very low point in University when my OCD and social anxiety was making life very tough.

Over a series of sessions Kate helped me through my final year at university and helped me to get my life back on track through targeted OCD treatment and more general wellbeing advice.

Her sessions have helped me to approach my mental health in a much more healthy way - I would simply not be where I am today without her help.”

"I was very sceptical of CBT as I had tried other therapies and had not found any benefit. I was made to feel very welcome and at ease.

Kate explained the approach and helped show progression which was really helpful to reflect on how I was improving.

If you are having difficulties I would strongly recommend you see how Kate could help you get back to being you."
